Marketing students at Copper Hills High School were treated with the first “Red Carpet” tour of the brand new “HD”, state of the art, studios of Fox 13, KSTU. The new Fox 13 Studios have been under construction since 2010, and closed to visitors while they retrofitted to the new HD computerized format. Tim Ermish, President and General Manager discussed the highly competitive nature of the broadcast-journalism business, as they are in the very important “Sweeps” timing of the year. He also explained the educational requirements and employment opportunities at Fox 13. Students had a Q & A with news anchors Dan Evans and Scott McKane; met with Program Director, Melanie Say, and were instructed by the Marketing Director, News Director, and Sales Manager as well. Students also visited the robotics news set, green screen, master control room, and editing center. We were amazed at how technical and sophisticated broadcasting has become. Utah is the 33rd DMA (Designated Marketing Area) in the U.S. and largest in geography. We learned how important Marketing concepts such as Demographics and Psychographics are to broadcasting.

Mr. Marshall, the ceramics teacher at CHHS, recently had some of his work published in the March 2013 edition of the Ensign. Three of his beautiful pieces were shown in the story “Make Known His Wonderful Works.” Mr. Marshall is a brand new teacher at CHHS this year and he has already impressed many of his students and fellow faculty members with his abilities both in and out of the classroom. Congratulations Mr. Marshall.

Copper Cubs Preschool Information 2013-14
Our preschool program is designed for 4-year-old children. Your child needs to be four years old by September 1st in order to enroll and he/she must be potty trained and able to take care of all toileting needs independently. Our program is not geared to special needs students.
We operate around a weekly theme. Sample themes are: community helpers, dental hygiene, Cat in the Hat, and butterflies. Each week there are a variety of activities based on that theme which include: a lesson on the theme, a science activity, a math activity, a language arts activity, snack time and free play time.
Start of School:
Preschool will begin the second week of October. Around the second week of September you should receive a flyer in the mail inviting you to our Meet the Teacher Night. If you do not receive this flyer, please contact Sherrie Eloff at Copper Hills High School (256-5300). This meeting is for parents only. You will have the opportunity to meet the high school students that will be teaching in our preschool. We will also go over policies and procedures for the Copper Cubs Preschool. Should your mailing information or phone number change after you register, please contact us with updated information.

We have two sessions of preschool. Monday/Wednesday classes and Tuesday/Thursday classes that run from 9:40 a.m. – 12:10 pm.
