Marketing Students Tour Fox 13 Studios
Posted by HL in Activities, Extra Curricular, General Information on May 13, 2013
Marketing students at Copper Hills High School were treated with the first “Red Carpet” tour of the brand new “HD”, state of the art, studios of Fox 13, KSTU. The new Fox 13 Studios have been under construction since 2010, and closed to visitors while they retrofitted to the new HD computerized format. Tim Ermish, President and General Manager discussed the highly competitive nature of the broadcast-journalism business, as they are in the very important “Sweeps” timing of the year. He also explained the educational requirements and employment opportunities at Fox 13. Students had a Q & A with news anchors Dan Evans and Scott McKane; met with Program Director, Melanie Say, and were instructed by the Marketing Director, News Director, and Sales Manager as well. Students also visited the robotics news set, green screen, master control room, and editing center. We were amazed at how technical and sophisticated broadcasting has become. Utah is the 33rd DMA (Designated Marketing Area) in the U.S. and largest in geography. We learned how important Marketing concepts such as Demographics and Psychographics are to broadcasting.
