Upcoming Tests

PLAN is a practice test for the ACT and will be given to all 10th graders in the school on Sept. 18.  This is a late start day for Juniors and Seniors.  More information will be posted as we get it.

PSAT is a practice test for the SAT and will be given October 16th in the Tech Atrium at 7:00 a.m. at a cost of $16 per test.  Each student that takes this test is entered into the National Merit Scholarship contest.  We have students each year that qualify as semi-finalist or finalist and this = big money from colleges.  10th graders can take this test also but are not entered into the scholarship contest.  10th graders will take this test in preparation to take it again during the junior year to qualify for the scholarship contest.   We will begin to sell the exams in the main office on Oct. 1.  We have 150 exams and so this is first come first serve.

Engineering Summer Camps at the University of Utah

There are two summer camps offered for high school students at the College of Engineering at the University of Utah.
The first camp, coming up June 17th to 21st,  is Hi-Gear.  It is an engineering camp for girls-only  It is a week-long camp that is hands-on and experiential. The camp is generally limited to 20 or so girls.  The food is great and the activities are awesome. Many of the girls that attend this camp do go on to be very involved engineering students, in fact many of our summer engineering ambassadors that help to run this camp attended this camp as high school students.
The following week a 3-day Exploring Engineering camp is offered and that is open to all. The theme this year is “Lights, Camera, Engineering”.  This is also a hands-on exploration of engineering and will provide an introductory experience to all of the engineering disciplines offered for study here at the University of Utah (Bio-engineering, Civil and Environmental engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Computer Science).
Please check out the website below and pass this information on to others.  Studies have shown that engaging students in activities such as these over the summer helps them to retain the knowledge they have gained over the school year. Both of these camps are STEM-oriented and give students an opportunity to see the connectedness of science, technology, engineering and math.
