Melissa Ivie, a student at CHHS, was recently recognized by two organizations. The first was the SaltLake chapter of Soroptimist International, a women’s service organization. She received the honorable mention Violet Richardson award for service. She and the 1st place winner were honored at a banquet on Feb. 27th, where she spoke on her experiences with service. This award is based on a program she initiated working with the U.S. Dream Academy, teaching robotics to low-income kids. The award comes with a $250 cash scholarship. More information can be found at the following link.
The second award was from the NationalCenter for Women and Technology (NCWIT). She was chosen as one of 10 Utah affiliate winners of the Award for Aspirations in Computing. They will be honored at a luncheon in March at the University of Utah. Information on the award can be found at the following link.
Last year Melissa also received a $500 scholarship from the Air Force as part of the regional science fair (as well as 6 other awards from the fair itself and other companies and organizations) She also received a $500 grant from dosomething.org to buy robots for her service projects.
Congratulations Melissa! We have a feeling you will accomplish some amazing things in the future.
