Upcoming Tests

PLAN is a practice test for the ACT and will be given to all 10th graders in the school on Sept. 18.  This is a late start day for Juniors and Seniors.  More information will be posted as we get it.

PSAT is a practice test for the SAT and will be given October 16th in the Tech Atrium at 7:00 a.m. at a cost of $16 per test.  Each student that takes this test is entered into the National Merit Scholarship contest.  We have students each year that qualify as semi-finalist or finalist and this = big money from colleges.  10th graders can take this test also but are not entered into the scholarship contest.  10th graders will take this test in preparation to take it again during the junior year to qualify for the scholarship contest.   We will begin to sell the exams in the main office on Oct. 1.  We have 150 exams and so this is first come first serve.

School Community Council

Dear Patrons of Copper Hills High School,

It is time again for the School Community Council to begin its work for the 2013-2014 school year. This includes elections for new officers (Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Secretary), setting the dates for meetings, and conducting the business of school improvement and administering land trust monies.

The Utah State Legislature passed a law in 2000 requiring every public school in the state to establish a School Community Council at the school-site level (Utah Code. Section 53A-1a-108). Two years later the legislature passed a second bill mandating several changes in the duties, powers and membership of the School Community Councils in Utah. This law took effect July 1, 2002. In accordance with state law, “Each public school, in consultation with its local school board, shall establish a school community council at the school building level.”

Duties of the Copper Hills High School Community Council include the following:

v     Develop a School Improvement Plan.

v     Develop a School LAND Trust Program.

v     Assist in the development and implementation of a Staff Development Plan.

v     Advise and make recommendations to school and District administrators and to the
School Board when appropriate.

v     Create subcommittees and task forces as needed.

Our initial meeting for the 2013-14 year will take place on October 8th at 6:30 PM in the Media Center. While we have a number of returning members on the Council, we will need to elect 8-12 new members.  If you are interested in filling one of the positions on the School Community Council, fill out the Candidate Form and return it to the Main Office no later than September 20th, 2013 at 3:00 PM. You may also return the completed form by attaching it to an email and sending it to Mr. Edmonds at the email address below.  Voting for elected positions will occur on September 25th through 27th.  Voting will take place in the main office at Copper Hills.  Please contact Mr. Edmonds if you have any questions about the School Community Council (Email: dennis.edmonds@jordandistrict.org or Phone: 801-256-5316.

Thanks for your continued support,

Copper Hills Administration
